"Other people are just...there." She drags heavily on the cigarette, blows a stream of smoke out the window, then flicks the butt out after it. "If they aren't helping, they're just in the way. Weave around them, knock them over, do whatever you have to, but get past them."

Review: Ultimate Spider-Man #99

I didn’t love the last couple storylines in Ultimate Spider-Man. Of course BMB’s “average” story is better than most creators’ best work. The last few have just left me wanting his best work. Then he decided he was going to take on “The Clone Sage,” which in the regular Marvel universe stunk on ice. It’s why my older cousin LaShando quit reading comics entirely. I had real doubts. That sounded like ego to me, ya know?

Well, the real Bendis is back. The one who wrote Daredevil and is writing New Avengers. The one who wrote all the early issues of USM. This issue is the real deal.

I was reading it and enjoying it and then suddenly I felt like I’d been smacked upside the head with a baseball bat. Man! It was a realy phenomenal story and the twist was a punch I never, never saw coming.

Fanboy, baby, tell me what YOU thought!

  1. Me says:

Your older cousin LaShando? Who do you think you’re kidding? Where do you come up with this stuff?

As to Ultimate Spidey — Well, unlike SOME people, I’ve been faithful from Day One. If it weren’t for some other books Bendis is writing, this would be — hands down — the best super-hero book the market. Period. As it turns out, it has to alternate spots with New Avengers and Powers, depending on what kind of month Bendis is having.

Anyway, I’m loving the Clone Saga. I never read the “original” saga, even though the guys at Comi-Corps keep talking about it. Doesn’t sound like anything I’d be interested in. But MAN that ending to #99…

Are we doing spoilers here or not? Because I can’t BELIEVE what Bendis pulled off and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here and I’m dying to say what it is, but I don’t want to piss someone off who hasn’t read it yet…
