How do you enter? It couldn’t be easier — just use the comment box below list the songs you think are perfect for Fanboy! You can do this however you like — maybe give us songs that Fanboy would listen to, or songs that Kyra would like, or songs you listen to while you read the book… OR songs that you think should be in the movie!
And hey — if your comment doesn’t show up right away, be patient and give it a little bit of time. Sometimes comments get delayed, so don’t fear. If after a day, you don’t see your comment, go ahead and try again.

the Australian edition of the book! --->
And hey, a quick note — this contest is just for FUN and in no way will affect the music in the final movie. By entering, you agree that your entry becomes the property of FanboyandGothGirl.com.

Tori Amos should definately do a track for Gothgirl.
I want to see at least one Ministry song and one of the NIN mixes of Closer.
Then if you really want to bring it home I suggest that Clint Mansell do the score because he did the score for The Fountain which is phenomenal.
Kyra seems like she’d listen to Jack Off Jill, Dresden Dolls, and Cradle Of Filth. Possibly some Avenged Sevenfold or Slipknot.
JOJ – When I Am Queen is pretty much an amazing song, by the way.
fanboy…I don’t really know. Maybe some indie like Death Cab For Cutie or something? I’ve no idea…
You should definately have some Good Charlotte in there though, ’cause they’re amazing.
I’d have to say for fanboy: Yeah ,something maybe indie-ish, obscurer stuff that deviates from the mainstream and all that. This could possibly serve as exposure for talented but under appreciated bands.
And possibly some slightly older stuff, not just today’s pop.
I would kinda agree with Garrett.
The music WOULD be indie-ish.
but also for my opinion, I would say the kind of music I pick would be:
rock, indie, alternative.
something like that, with artists like nada surf or death cab for cutie.
For kyra (sorry, acciently pressed comment w/o realizing it).
it’d be like fanboy’s music but edgier and more…darker.
Weezer, Aiden, Franz Ferdinand, and possibly Panic! at the Disco would be an example of her taste of music.
‘Teenagers’ by My Chemical Romance should definitely be in the movie. The lyrics are perfect!
Here are some choices:
For Kyra:
Outkast (mentioned in the book)
My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult
Voltaire
The Cure
The Cruxshadows
Siouxsie & The Banshees
For Donnie:
Silversun Pickups
Flickerstick
The Killers
No Knife
For the party scene where Donnie gets the kiss:
Polyphonic Spree’s cover of “Love My Way”
Goth girl
I really think that nothing suits Kyra more than My Chemical Romance! It’s the band and music for her. Check out MCR’s Helena.
Fanboy, he listening to music? Can’t imagine but i made a list for him :Adam’s song by Blink 182, The Young & Hopeless by Good Charlotte and Paper dolls by Marcy playground
I’ve been listening to “Let Me Go” by 3 doors down while reading the book. It makes me feel so damn emotional.
Okay, my ideas are that the film would be very appropriately combined with the song Teenagers by My Chemical Romance because of its themes of teenage angst would make it perfect to go in the scenes where fanboy is being beaten up in the Dead Zone and even possibly for his fantasy scenes involving the terrorist hostage situation.
I’m Not Okay by My Chemical Romance would also be quite a pertinent song choice, owing strongly to its themes of loneliness, the breakdown of relationships and losing respect for someone.
All That I’ve Got by The Used would be highly relevant due to the fact that after Kyra and Fanboy fight, they realise that each other is all that they’ve got because it’s suddenly not there, so early in their relationship. They see that they need and like each other, no matter how unwilling either of them may be to express it. They now know that once they are apart, they needed each other all along.
Kyra:
-Souxsie and the Banshees
-Future Bible Heroes (specifically “I’m A Vampire”)
-Lola Ray
-Ozomatli
-Rancid
-Soft Cell
-Alien Ant Farm
-Silverchair
-tHrOnE
Fanboy:
-the Cure
-Steriogram
-Bon Jovi
-MxPx
-The Hush Sound
-Maroon5
-Jack’s Mannequin
-Something Corporate
-Young Love
Kyra’s taste of music would be:
Weezer
Aiden
AFI
Outkast (mention in the book, obviously)
Fall Out Boy
Taking Back Sunday
New Found Glory
Panic! at the Disco
Rilo Kiley
Fanboy is more of a soft rock type of guy such as….
Bright Eyes
The Shins
Big Japan
Death Cab
Dashboard Confessional
Trading Yesterday
Modest Mouse
Morrissey
just think of his taste of music the exact same as Adam Brody.
The song “Lover’s Spit” performed by Broken Social Scene would be a recommendation during the kissing scene towards the end.
While reading the book I pictured fanboy being a Beatle fan because most “geeks” are into the 60′s and the such(that dosen’t mean that you are a nerd if you dig that era of music…).
Also Because he gives a lot of reference to the Beatles( Helter Skelter). Most of these go great with big scenes in the book and their own personalities. Kyra: dark and misundertood Donnie: geeky, awkward, shelterd, intelligent, and never been kissed…
So here is the following list
for Fanboy(Donnie)and Kyra:
Weezer- Pink Triangle,Buddy Holly,Perfect Situation,and the such…(for Fanboy)
The Beatles- Helter Skelter, Across the universe, Hey Jude,
and the like…(Fanboy and Goth Girl)
The Fray- How To Save A Life
Blondie- Rip Her To Shreds, Heart Of Glass,Call Me…
Tommy James And The Shondells-
I Think We’re Alone Now, Crimson and Clover…
Plain White T’s- Hey There Delilah
AFI
Kiss
Jet
Led Zeppelin-Black Dog, Stairway to heaven…
The Cars
The Foo Fighters-One By One
Taking Back Sunday
Jimmy Eat World-The Middle
No Doubt-(for Kyra)
The Ramones
The Hives
Tsunami Bomb
Dashboard Confessionals
Bright Eyes- Bowl of Oranges
Howie Day-Collide
The Used
Maroon5
Death Cab For A Cutie
30 Seconds To Mars-Attack
Hot hot Heat
The Ataris
My Chemical Romance
Rufio
Armor for sleep
Franz Ferdinand
The Cure
James Blunt
Jack’s Mannequin-Mix Tape
Agustana- Boston
The Pink Spiders
The Offspring
Flogging Molly
Motley Crue
Nirvana-Smells Like Teen Spirit…
Rancid
Yellowcard-Way Away
Korn- Freak On A Leash
Papa Roach-Scars(about Kyra)
Fergie- Glamorous (for the prep scenes)
The Geek-Rock really works For Donnie and the Heavy Rock, angsty, metal and Goth for Kyra
With Love,
Anabelinda

For any comments.
I think that “Teenagers” or “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)” or anything by My Chemical Romance would be great for the soundtrack. Also, “Welcome To My Life” or “I’m Just A Kid” by Simple Plan would be good too.
my song choices would be:
“The Sound Of Settling”
and
“Your Heart is an Empty Room”
by Death Cab For Cutie
“Forever Young”
by Youth Group
“Rock and Roll Queen”
by The Subways
“We Used To be Friends”
by The Dandy Warhols
I think wezzer’s “im a teenage dirtbag” should be included in there for fan boy
“Teenage Dirtbag” is by Wheatus, not Weezer.
hmm…I think maybe some U2 stuff for fanboy, like “Pride(in the name of love)” and also “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for. and “Superman” by R.E.M.
for Kyra… possibly “Believe Me” by Fort Minor…I can’t really think of much else, except maybe “Where the Streets have No Name” also by U2
Just some genral ideas
Modest Mouse- mostly old stuff like “Black Cadillacs”
Streetlight Manifesto-”Moment of Silence” is just amazing for this
Three Doors Down- writes real feeling in it
Story of a Girl is the best song EVER to use for Kyra
Rock n’ Roll Queen by the Sub ways will work to.
Relient K-lots of great song for any ocation, just take your pick

Flouresein – Abandoned Pools
All on Black – Alkaline trio
Teenager – Deftones
No Feeling – Kill Cheerleader
Casualty – Lovehammers
Call of Distress – Lovehammers
Penguins and Polar bears – Millencolin
Ain’t No Reason – Brett Dennen
The Kids Aren’t Alright – The Offspring
my choice of songs, simple enough ok?
all the same-sick puppies, we used to be friends-the dandy warhols, and never too late by three days grace.
hero/heroine by boys like girls, here (in your arms) by hellogoodbye, na na na na nahh by kaiser cheifs and party like a rockstar should be played during the party scene
for no reason, I think “Do You Believe in Love?” by Huey Lewis and the News is a good song suggestion for when fanboy and dina kiss.
dude!!! (yeah I said dude, what now?) Face Down by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus would be an awesome song for the soundtrack!
um… i have to agree with chris, old modest mouse would be perfect for this, although more like stuff from The Moon and Antartica, such as “Alone Down there” and “Perfect Disguise”. “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” by the stones is an obvious and yet good one for the story. “living Hell” by the misfits describes fanboys position perfectly. “Paint It Black” by the Rolling stones is perfect for Kyra. PERFECT! Also “People are Strange” by the doors is good. Johnny Cash in general is good.
chasing cars by snow patrol, thks fr th mmrs by fall out boy, and possibly your heart is an empty room by death cab.
chasing cars by snow patrol, thks fr th mmrs by fall out boy, and possibly your heart is an empty room by death cab. and speeding cars by imogen heap as well as phantom limbs by the shins.
i have too many song choices so here it is:
Gorillaz- Kids With Guns, Youth Group- Forever Young, Shiny Toy Guns- Don’t Cry Out, Imogen Heap- Hide and Seek, The Walkmen- Little House of Savages, and The Blow- Hey Boy
I know a million people before me have mentioned this song, but I think ‘Teenagers’ by My Chemical Romance would be a great song to play when we are first introduced to Kyra’s homocidal driving style. It just seems appropriate. =)
As for Fanboy, I’m at a loss as to what he would listen to..no music particularly reminds me of him to be honest. Maybe some Incubus. Beats me.
I think The Used should do a track on the soundtrack. My chemical romance should also be apart of the playlist. Silverstein or Queens of the Stone Age, would also be a good choice.
There should definitely be some songs by Mastodon (Capillarian Crest, Megalodon, Aqua Dimentia) and Deicide or Cradle of Filth for Kira. Also, for the movie soundtrack there should be some Bloodhound Gang, a little Smashing Pumpkins, one or two tracks from Queens of the Stone Age, some In Flames, and maybe some System of a Down (Aerials, for when Fanboy is working on Schemata. The intro is just epic.) Also, there should definitely be some Led Zeppelin (Stairway to Heaven) for when Kira and Fanboy get into a fight in the basement.
Don’t forget to add Morbid Angel, Gorgoroth, Testament, Iced Earth, Disturbed, Tool, Avenged Sevenfold, Strapping Young Lad, the Gorillaz, Motorhead, Megadeth, Slayer, Emperor, King Diamond,
Marilyn Manson, Queen, Rammstein, Children of Bodom, Borknagar, Rob/White Zombie, Lamb of God, Death, Candlemass, Kyuss, Pink Floyd, Celtic Frost, GWAR, Thin Lizzy, Alice Cooper, Motley Crue, Danzig, Twisted Sister, David Bowie, Crowbar, and Amon Amarth. That’s just naming a few from my library.
Here goes . . .
For Donnie:
The Beach Boys, Camper Van Beethoven, The Descendents, Strawberry Switchblade, Patience and Prudence, PJ Proby
For Kyra:
Om, High on Fire, Lee Hazelwood, Leonard Cohen
The Carrie Nations, Black Tape for a Blue Girl, Public Enemy, Spell
Not ‘theme music’ to fit each character, more like music to act as interstitials and background, theme music.
i think that the fort minor song “Believe Me” seems almost like it goes with the events of the book.
Back in Your Head by Tegan and Sara is sung by girls but the lyrics seem like a fit for fanboy when he realizes he may like Kyra
i can deffenitly see kyra listening to Evanescence beacuse its really dark and alot of there songs fit her to perfection.I also can see her listening to Hawthorne Hights,or some Korn, mabie some godsmack or finger 11, she could also listen to chevelle.
For fanboy, he could listen to weezer, or HIM, i can also see him listening to hoobastank and plain white t’s.
i think they should put some seether in there just beacuse its really good music that wold work well with both characters.
Any Songs by Tegan and Sara. Especially on their latest album, “The Con” and the soundtrack sound also feature Saosin’s “You’re Not Alone” and Sick Puppies “All The Same”
should, not sound. my mistake
I think the following bands would a great option of music for the film (mostly indie rock):
Interpol
Ben Folds Five
The Walkmen
The Thrills
Death Cab For Cutie
BRIGHT EYES!!!!!!
Modest Mouse
Tegan and Sara
Plain White T’s

The Blow
Rilo Kiley
and many many more
i think some 69eyes cradle of filth avenged sevenfold misfits and nekromatics….
Alright lets try this :]
I think for Kyra, she would listen to some music that people expect of her, the metal “goth” music category, but she is also known to do the UNexpected. Most of the bands she listend to are probably unheard of, grungy metal or indie bands with strong leads and a lot of bass
With that said, I tried to put together a good Kyra playlist, even though I doubt I’ve ever heard of the music Kyra Porbably listens to:
•Nymphetamine- Cradle of Filth
•Needles- System of a Down
•Ghost Flowers- OTEP
•Metro- The Vincent Black Shadow
•Jaded- Walls of Jericho
•Personal Jesus- Marilyn Manson
•Fat Lip- Sum 41
•Headstrong- Trapt
I chose some of these for a reason
Like Walls of Jericho and OTEP– they both have female lead vocals, yet they are metal growl/scream bands. The fact that they have FEMALE growlers sorta defies the stereotype.
And then the song Headstrong by Trapt- it really just reminds me a of Kyra’s character, headstrong and persistent.
I also made a playlist for Fanboy:
•Blackbird- The Beatles
•Riot Girl- Good Charlotte
•Soul Meets Body- Death Cab for Cutie
•

•Scar Tissue- Red Hot Chili Peppers
•Word Disassociation- Lemon Demon
AND *insert drumroll here*
•The Mighty Mouse Theme Song
I chose these because, even though Fanboy’s music library is probably strongly influenced by Cal, he probably listens to pretty mellow but fun music. “Riot Girl” reminds him of Kyra- even though I doubt its a song she would actually listen to. Word Disassociation is by a sillier, more internet oriented band, Lemon Demon, and The Mighty mouse Theme song just reminds me of Fanboy in a weird way. Like, Fanboy is a meek, mouse-like kind of kid (at least in the beginning) but he’s also into superhero comics and I’m sure hed love to be the one to “save the day” when “Mr. trouble comes around.”
Ta-daaa! :]

Teenagers- My Chemical Romance
I’m Not Okay (I Promise)- My Chemical Romance.
I think that for a slice of life type of movie such as this, the music needs to be suited to scenes, not just there to fill in sound. I’m thinking the Talking Heads, the Kinks, and the Grateful Dead for fanboy scenes, and for Kyra some Voltaire, Type-O-Negative (the less hardcore stuff), and the Cure. Maybe throw in a little Luciano Pavarotti for the chaotic comic convention scene.
Anything by Nerf Herder would be awsome…i think Kyra would listen to Lamb of God, Cradle of Filth, or Job for a Cowboy.
Oops..im sorry! i accidently hit submit…we also think kyra would listen to disturbed
For Kyra: My chemical Romance, Finger Eleven, Coldplay, Disturebed, Panic! at the disco (Espeicaly I wright sins not tradgedies), Blink182, Fall Out Boy, Linkin Park. and for Donnie, A.K.A. Fanboy: 12 stones, AFI, Goldfinger, The Frey, Foo Fighters. And that is my Opinion.
