    Because I don't.

Fanboy Goes to Hollywood!

Hey, everyone! Guess what?

Oh, heck — if you read the headline, you’ve probably guessed already. That’s no fun.

Anyway, those of you have been asking “Is the book going to be made into a movie?” can now mark this day on your calendar! Director Jeremiah Chechik (Benny & Joon) and Tinroof Pictures have optioned The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl!

Now, this doesn’t mean that a movie is definitely going to be made, or that it’s going to happen soon. What it means is that Jeremiah really wants to make a movie out of the book…and he’s taken the first step. The next step is actually working out a budget and financing, and then buying the rights to the book. That could take a week…or it could take years!

But hey — the first step has been taken! Cool!

If you want Barry’s take on the whole thing, check out his BLog.

If the movie actually happens, no one at FanboyandGothGirl.com will be involved in casting. You would have to contact a Hollywood casting agent, probably. But the movie isn’t even in the planning stages yet — it’s just been optioned. So you’ll need to await a while! If the movie DOES go forward, you can be sure we’ll announce it here!

I was actually just reading the book- up to Kyra’s hissy fit at the comic convention, and I was thinking: “This really should be made into a movie…”
I noticed the web adress on the back of the book, came on- and what a surprise!
It’s an awesome book, and it’s just as awesome that it has a chance to hit our big screens.
    I Really can’t wait.

Just need to say that this is a great idea for a movie. Mr. Lyga you should right a sequel first for something like this. It leaves on the note that makes people desire more which I will admit is a good thing to do and I personally try that in a few things I write (even though none are good) and like it being seen. If you ever think about writing a sequel to it I hope you pursue the idea and make the second book as good as the first, since well a lot of sequels suck compared the first. Oh and totally wish you luck on the movie deal.

Sorry for the improper grammar on right. It should be write not right.

i can’t wait to see if this is going to be a movie!! the book is great and it’ll be great to have this turned into a movie. also ever since i read the book i can’t stop thinking whats going to happen next so i’ve basically created a fanfiction based on what happenes. the movie will probually be great if it comes out. i can’t belive my friend said it was gay porn.

  13. Bootsoo says:

Eve M., I totally want to read your fanfic. Is it on a site somewhere? If not, send it to me! ilovecandycanes [at] gmail.com

what about a second book the first didn’t have a good ending 🙁

  15. Michael J. says:

Something just occured to me. The book leaves off on a point where it’s such a cliffhanger the readers desire to read more and in such do eventually.

I just finished that book today
I love it, and I was thinking about halfway through reading it “This would make a great movie”

I really hope it happens, I would love to see it! Good luck!

  19. Tara K says:

Hey I recently read this book. This really would make an excellent movie, actually i am surprised it isnt a movie but i can’t wait to see what happens if they go through with it.

  20. Aiko says:

    The book was amazing. 😀
I bought it and was totally worth the money I spent. It’s such a good story. If there actually was a movie made, I would be there at the theatres the day it comes out. I’m keeping my fingers crossed, hopefully it comes out!

  21. Amber says:

I agree with Aika– It was worth the money that my brother spent 😉 Alot of people are saying that they don’t like the ending.. personally, I think it’s a great ending because it leaves you on a ‘cliffhanger’ as another commenter said, and it makes you think that there you be a SECOND book! I also agree with the another above commenter… The part at the comic book convention where she flashes Bendis would be hilarious to see! (not actually see THAT, but to see the astonished look on Bendis’ face). I wonder if they will actually use Bendis to act as himself in the movie? Maybe he has a hidden talent.. hehe… you never know…

  22. Vivienne says:

I would love to see this movie! (if it happens…) I really loved this book and hope that there will be a second because the end was a bit of a letdown. But I will definately be reading more of your books.

  23. nick says:

the movie should be amazing. i can already picture it now.oh and barry if your reading this please start working on a sequel. it makes me mad that you just left the book at such a cliffhanger and i want to know what kyra will do next!!!

  24. marty says:

the whole time i was reading the book i thought: “this is going to be a movie someday.” it’s just too good … i mean, the book is good! reminds me a lot of my own experiences with my own “goth girl.”

  25. cakesniffer says:

awesome!!! really, really, really AWESOME!! of course, I want to be kyra, but I doubt that’ll happen….:(

  27. David says:

Finished the book today… amazing. It brings me back to my highschool days, I can understand exactly how Fanboy feels, not the comic bit but the emotional and psychological protion of his character, he personifies the social outcast. I do think there should be a sequel, I want to know what happens between him and Kyra. The ending was good but it was a cliff hanger I feel like i only got half of an ending.

  28. gothification says:

I think this book is pretty damn awesome other than the crappy ending. I guess it lets you think up the rest for yourself which sucks if your an uncreative nitwitt. So what’s the deal with this movie business? Do you think they could rewrite the ending and get rid of some of the offensive sexist comments, I mean I know its hard for some teenage boys to NOT think like that, but we don’t all wanna read it.

  29. juliebee says:

God, I loved the book. I’m a fangirl and a goth chick (inside?). I bought the book Firebirds yesterday but found it was dirty inside (literally, since it’s 2nd hand) and asked to have it exchanged for Fanboy. Well whaddyaknow, I finished reading it this morning and I liked it. I’m 22, rendering me too old to play Kyra, but then again I wouldn’t want to flash everyone, hehehe. So anyway, I hope there’s a sequel coming out. Have mercy on us!

  30. tevin hooper says:

If do produce this will you give the address of the place where your auditioning, i think i would make a great Fanboy

  31. tevin hooper says:

and also, will the movie be R-rated, or will you remove the dirty parts?

  32. FanboyandGothGirl.com says:

All of that will be left up to the producer/director, Jeremiah Chechik. We’ll update you on everything as it happens. (BTW, I think the book could VERY easily be made as PG-13 without taking anything out. After all, there’s no actual nudity in the book.)

  33. thegothguy says:

ok i loved the book! amazing! i read it in like 2 days i ever put it down! ^.^ but after reading it i got pretty sad that kyra wanted him to leave her alone its a bummer any chances of a sequel?

  35. Scaramouche says:

I would love to audition for goth girl… but alas, its proably an american film and I am but a ‘mere’ australian (yea right). Bloody hollywood, takes all the good stuff.

  36. nicole says:

this is so great! this book deserves to be made into a movie! while i was reading it i tried to figure out who could play the roles of fanboy and goth girl. and surprisingly, it was hard. I chose taylor lautner as fanboy, only since he was sharkboy from sharkboy and lavagirl (and also because i adore him), and the titles were similar. so i tried to picture lavagirl as goth girl. but it just wasnt working. sharkboy and lavagirl are not “freaky” enough to fit the descriptions at all.

  37. Vampwolfluvr says:

I loved this book. I seriously recomended it to…well no one really listens to me so. I WANTED to recomend it. Everyone who loves books will clutch this book close even when it’s done. It would be really rad to see it in theaters! 🙂
