I can't afford to let myself feel good, to let my guard down, to think for a single moment that I belong.

    Because I don't.

On the Texas Tour… Houston (Day 2)

One of the most exhilarating and rewarding stops on the Texas Tour came on January 22 at Elsik High School in Alief, TX…

At Elsik, Barry got to meet with dozens upon dozens of students and staff members from Elsik and other district schools…all of whom had read the book! It was an amazing experience to be in a room filled with enthusiastic fans.

Barry gave a brief presentation on the history and nature of “geekery,” which was well-received (i.e., everyone laughed in the right places). He then read from the book and answered questions before sitting down for a VERY long signing line!

Valerie and Cathy from Blue Willow Books helped coordinate things (and Cathy kept the line moving!). Special thanks to Elsik principal Linda Graessle and librarians Christina Stark and Marco Zannier (as well as to Alief library coordinator Vicki Fisher and EVERYONE who brought kids to the event).

And special thanks to the kids, too! What a terrific crowd.

Some pictures are below. Click on them to see the entire gallery of photos from the event.

Mr Barry, met you at the Elsik HS book talk in Houston.
i was one of the librarians who brought over about 20 kids who really loved your book. it completely connected with them! i so enjoyed your talk about Geeks, i would like your permission to use your material in the Sunday School class i teach. the general flow is no problem to remember/review but was wondering if you could shoot me the specifics (def., examples, scripture refs, etc)so i could be truly accurate.
you ofcourse would be credited as my refrence.
thank you again for coming to our schools, it really made a difference in many of my students lives. see, something good does come from comic books, and one does not need to be afraid of geeks bearing gifts.
